Just Lots of Wall Art

Wall art in the streets of Perth City 140

Just a little update on my current ~life~ situation where I try to persuade you that I'm a perfectly normal human being of society.

These past few months have really just been about university and working on assessments plus working as per usual. The past month has been extremely stressful as I was working 4 nights for work and had 3 days of university with no break in between. I was basically working 7 nights for a month straight without a day off or a night to just breathe and relax. It was super stressful but I'm really glad I was determined and persevered - the end result was a blessing in disguise.

A picture of some wildly amusing wall art in the streets of Mount Lawley

transportation | a hong kong video diary

Would super appreciate it if you could watch my new video diary! Thank you so much!

So I was going through my iPhoto images as I wanted to browse through my photos which I took back in 2013/2014 when I went back to Hong Kong (and also visited Taiwan) when I discovered that I actually filmed a lot of videos during my holidays.

This quickly inspired me to film a video diary like those beautiful ones Zoe Suen puts together. Mines not as good as hers but it was greatly inspired by her video diaries. It took me around 4 hours to put it altogether (including uploading and publishing it) and I am super proud of what I created. Hopefully I can continue improving in the future but I'm so in love with the video's thumbnail. I didn't even specifically choose one - it just came up.

Thanks for reading/watching!

What's for dinner? | Lucky Chan's & Francoforte Spaghetti Bar

I feel like all I ever blog about is food. Which is exactly what this blog post is going to be about as well but nothing interesting ever happens in my life (or Perth for that matter) except new restaurants and cafes popping up. So I shall continue blogging about these ridiculously nice places I've been visiting. Except maybe I'll spread it out evenly instead of combining it into one ridiculously large blog post.

Here are some nice dinner places you can visit around Northbridge!

Lucky Chan's Laundry + Noodlebar / Northbridge

I ordered the Danny Ramen ($15.90) with a spiciness of 7/10 (Because I like it hot!) and I liked it! The broth had a nice rich flavour (from the pork mince?), including the corn, meshed well together. I would definitely go back just for the ramen. My friend made a face when I told her there was corn in it and that she would take out the corn but I actually really liked the corn and I don't usually like corn with anything. However, the only problem was, I wasn't completely full. I think if I had a drink and an entree as well as the ramen I would be full. I only had the ramen and some water so I left feeling half full which is better than leaving not full at all I guess.

My sister ordered the Umami Monster ($14.90) and she mentioned that it tasted like water. So I tried her ramen while she tried mine and we definitely agreed that the broth played a huge part in how good the dishes were. Her's was extremely bland even with all of the ingredients added into in (fried tofu, tomato, wood ear mushrooms and 62 degree egg). I think her's needed a richer broth.

Lucky Chan's is a hit or miss. I shall be back to try some of the other stuff on the menu!

Francoforte Spaghetti Bar / Northbridge

Tucked away in an extremely popular alleyway is Francoforte Spaghetti Bar. I've passed by it numerous of times while visiting their neighbours Superstar Waffles, Babooshka and Is Donburi but never had the opportunity to try it until now. My friend always put me off it saying that it was expensive but I didn't think it was that expensive. In fact, I really enjoyed the night at Francoforte even if I didn't especially like the Carbonara that I ordered.

The spaghetti bar was so cute! I loved the interior and how we could see the kitchen. It was so chill I wish we had bought a bottle of wine because it felt like the perfect place to have spaghetti and wine.

The Guanciale Carbonara ($16 | $22) Grande I ordered had only crispy bacon bits with it and barely any sauce. It tasted so bland and boring towards the end when I was finishing up the plate. The bacon bits were also extremely salty that I just left most of them on the side of my plate. What they did do right was the spaghetti though - the spaghetti was cooked just right. It wasn't too soft or too hard and made the meal much more enjoyable. Also, on the menu it mentioned there was egg - I don't actually remember having egg on mine or at least in the way that I imagined it to be.

My sister ordered the Eggplant Sugo ($15 | $20) Piccolo with a side of pork sausage ($4) and her dish was a lot better. The difference in serving sizes between a Grande and a Piccolo was miniscule. Hers was just as filling as mine. I would definitely just opt for a Piccolo size next time. The Eggplant Sugo was so much nicer and richer in flavour. I think Francoforte does better in tomato sauces than cream sauces.

Would definitely recommend the Eggplant Sugo in Piccolo! Would go back again to try out the other dishes and definitely bringing a bottle of wine next time.

May I Review?

Is blogging the traditional way still a thing anymore? As I've been lacking and I feel like I only post once a month these days. Which is better than nothing I suppose. The above photo is of me - all blue and blurred out - and my friends. I assure you, the whole matching couple colour scheme outfit was totally not planned. It was a complete coincidence.

I wish all my friends were friends with each other. It would honestly save my bank account. I've had four friends - who aren't friends with each other - try to invite me out for brunch/dinner already. It's so infuriating trying to organise a day, pick which cafe/restaurant to have, set a time and decide who to go with. Then I have to use my money when I'm already in the middle of saving up for a, might I add, much needed vacation!

Anyways, back to the blog title. I thought I would do one of those monthly reviews again as I deleted it last time as I didn't want people to think I was an actual food reviewing blog. Sorry, I'm not deserving of that title yet. This month + a little bit of April - we mostly went to South of the River. It was such a road trip. I think next month we'll just stick to our favourites and places I haven't been back in ages like Mr. Munchies!

Harvest Espresso

Went to Harvest Espresso with my sister to try their menu. I ordered the roasted cauliflower while she ordered some pancakes (I think?) I really liked mine! But I wouldn't order it again just because towards the end it was tasting really repetitive and bland. It was just a whole chunk of cauliflower. I wish they had more of that cream as the cauliflower needed more flavouring. The cream was exceptionally nice The nuts and the crisps were a nice touch of texture and flavour. Wish the egg was more cooked as it tasted soggy and the yolk didn't add much flavour :(

I also ordered the Matcha latte and honestly it just tasted like powder. Not really much Matcha flavour at all. Was kinda disappointed with that as we're used to drinking the Matcha drinks at Superstar Waffles and they're lovely.

Yelo

We dropped by Yelo as we wanted to find a pet-friendly place as Choco desperately needed to go out after being stuck with the cone around his neck all week. I ordered a banana bread (really into that lately) and a vegetable slice with a cappuccino. The banana bread didn't have any banana taste to it which I was disappointed in and it was super sweet. The texture was nice though but maybe I'll just get banana bread somewhere else.

The vegetable slice was slightly cold and that could've been due to the weather so I won't blame them. It was really nice and I would definitely order it again! As was that cappuccino - nice with enough froth. I honestly don't like people who give me a cappuccino with barely any froth. FROTH IS WHERE IT'S AT. Otherwise, I would've just ordered a Flat White.

Varsity Bar

Ordered the Nachos as it was on special. It was good...I guess. I still wish there was more meat sauce and less coriander. For some reason, all I can remember is loving nachos from an pop culture convention I went to. It had a lot of nacho chips, chunk of chilli con carne and do-it-yourself sour cream, avocado and jalapeños. WANT!

The Modern Eatery

$99 meal at the Modern Eatery. WHAT?! We were already deciding what to order differently next time when we were leaving the place. So we're definitely going back but we're definitely going to be eating some stuff before going instead of going on an empty stomach.

We ordered a tofu & seaweed salad - that was great and everything was blended in nicely. Definitely ordering that next time.

Fry me to the Moon - Awesome, crunchy sushi roll with cooked salmon and cream cheese. Recommended.

Will not be ordering the nigiris next time. Was not anything special to be honest. Not very filling and was expensive $3+ for one single nigiri.

Sweet Potato roll was super nice and crispy. However, it did not leave a good lasting impression. Won't be re-ordering.

Chirashi set. HAHAHA. Never ordering this again. Look at above photo. $23 for the above and a miso soup. Sorry, but it just wasn't worth it even it is using the freshest ingredients possible.

Musashi. Was so nice. Want it right now.

The Moon Cafe

Ordered the Chilli Prawn, Comfort and Lamb Ragu and a Spinster Pizza. Everything was so delicious. We literally devoured inhaled it. Even my dad, whose a chef, said it was super nice and filling. Also so worth it - $13 on Monday - Thursdays for pizzas and pastas. Can't wait to go back again!! Our server was also so helpful and friendly. Thanks the Moon Cafe!!

Ending this post with a photo of Sarah and I promoting the Shaun the Sheep Movie after we finished watching Pitch Perfect 2! Thanks for reading!! Can't wait to try more places!

Melbourne Trip 2014 DAY 1

I have been super lazy and been meaning to blog about my Melbourne trip but just been putting it off. I think I'll just blog about each day seperately instead of bundling it all into one post!

Last week on a Tuesday (22nd of July), my best friend Yun, my sister and I took on Melbourne! We arrived there at 5 am in the morning and hardly had any sleep because we had a child sitting behind us and she talked the whole 3 hours on the way to Melbourne - we hardly had any sleep and I arrived in Melbourne feeling exhausted.

We lounged around the airport and had breakfast. It was freezing when we arrived in Melbourne. The fact that we arrived there before the sun even came out was possibly the main reason why but it was Winter there also. Anyways, as we ate our first meal in Melbourne, we planned out how the day was supposed to go. We couldn't check into the hotel until 2 pm but we didn't want to carry our luggages around while we explored Melbourne. We called up the hotel - which was the Albany motel - and they were super friendly and let us know we could leave our luggages at the motel and they could even let us check in earlier than 2pm! So we caught a taxi (the taxis are yellow!) and the taxi driver was also really helpful and friendly and let us know about all the tourist destinations which we were planning to go. He helped us cross a lot of destinations off our list as he told us which ones we should go and which ones were not as good.

The ride to the motel was so exciting and fascinating. Melbourne is truly, so awesomely, beautiful. Every single one of the buildings there are so pretty and I love how fashionable people are there.

We arrived at the motel, it was pretty nice and very homey (?). We checked in at 10am and asked about public transport. We decided to go to the Botanic Gardens first since it was nearby and walking distance. It was so pretty. We didn't fully explore the gardens though and we only just realised when we were on the way back.

Since we didn't have our myki cards for the trams, we couldn't take the tram to the CBD to get our myki cards haha. So we asked some locals and one man told us we could walk to CBD. So on our way there we passed the National Gallery of Victoria and went in.

After the art gallery, we walked to Federation square and finally bought our myki cards! They were $41 and were unlimited fares lasting for a week which was a pretty good deal. So we finally got our myki cards and we continued to explore the CBD area and found Krispy Kremes! Starbucks! (We don't have these in Perth) We also dropped by Coles to get some toothpaste, shampoo, conditioner and other toiletries and snacks just in case. We then went back to the motel by tram! and on our first ever tram ride ~ the tram crashed into a turning car!!!!! The tram actually thought the car would go so the tram driver slowed down but then the car didn't turn so the tram driver went but then the car turned right into the tram! So they collided and we were in shock as it was our first tram ride ever!

Anyways, the car driver, luckily, was safe and we arrived at our motel in time. I immediately fell asleep as I was so tired and hardly had any sleep during the night. After I and everybody else woke up from their nap - they also fell asleep after me haha - We went to Chapel Street for dinner. However, when we got off the tram we realised we got off way too early and we were so lost. We had no idea where we were until we got out our trusty paper map out. All the shops were already all closed by the time we arrived at chapel street though - except for Topshop! Topshop was so expensive though?? And I didn't really like anything there. Throughout the whole trip no one bought anything from Topshop.

After walking around, we were getting pretty hungry and I decided on having dumplings for dinner! It was so yummy and cheap. I paid and it was only $24 for the whole meal. So cheap! It would usually be more than $50 at least to feed 3 people!

That was pretty much our first day in Melbourne! This should be the longest post as we actually did a lot the first day.

Much Ramblings About Nothing Really...

Currently sneezing non-stop (I think I've caught the flu?) and listening to Lisa Mitchell's 'Coin Laundry' whilst freezing to death over Perth's winter weather. I thought I would blog for the night, but I honestly haven't got a topic to add!

My life has actually been quite boring since exams finished - apart from working 4 nights a week, I've done nothing new. Oh! Except I'm getting new eye glasses and sunglasses in the upcoming weeks. The thing is, when I originally set off to get the frames I chose these two pairs:

Then as I went back for my appointment, the sales lady told me that she would not recommend these pairs to me as the frames didn't have nose pads (Asian flat nose syndrome) so they would sit on my cheeks and they would be too heavy and whatnot. The thing is - I've been wearing my current two eye glasses and both frames don't have nose pads and they both sit on my cheeks. I've had no problems with them and I don't mind at all. It's all really personal preference.

I was super annoyed when she suggested other frames to buy and she chose all these super ugly frames which made me look unflattering. Especially the sunglasses - all of them were super ugly. She chose these metal ones which weren't stylish at all. When I finally told her that I would be keeping the sunglass frames she kept on asking me if I was really sure I wanted these - it got super annoying and made me mad. I just don't get it, I think I would know what I like and I've been wearing glasses for the majority of my life - I think I understand what I like and dislike. I've had those nose pad pieces before and they didn't even help - they made my eyes and nose hurt and they ended up sliding down anyways. They also get dirty quickly and they turn into a really disgusting shade if they're not cleaned properly. I'm so low maintenance! Then you end up getting pimples on your nose area.

Anyways, I ended up getting these frames in the end:

Yah, they do have nose pads.

Also, there's only 21 days left until I set off for my Melbourne Trip with my sister and my best friend! We're horrible at planning so we're just going to do stuff and plan along the way when we arrive haha. I hope we don't run out of money soon! I'm super excited because this is the first time I'm traveling with a friend and first time not with my parents. Maybe next time I'll actually travel with just my friend and I or JUST BY MYSELF!

It's also 39 days until I get my Invisalign braces off which I'm pretty stoked about and I feel like I've been smiling and laughing more freely now. It's funny how my self-confidence has improved along with my teeth. It's the little things that help my confidence grow. My teeth used to be so horrible that I would only just smile with my mouth closed.

FASHUUUNN INSPO

I haven't posted since the beginning of this year and sitting down in front of my laptop and spending some quality time writing down some feeeels have made me miss properly 'blogging' (not Tumblr blogging which consists of 99.99% of me reblogging).

So, I won't ramble on on what I've been doing this past year because none of that really matters as it was mostly just me adjusting to university life and finding out the perils of relationships post high-school.

In the meantime, I just wanted to tell you that I'm heading off to Hong Kong in exactly 3 days! I just have to tackle my final exam tomorrow and I'm set for vacay! I am extremely excited as I haven't been back in almost 4 years! The last time I was there was back in January 2010. I'm going to be in Hong Kong for 1 month exactly but I'll also be touring around in Taiwan for 5 days! I've never been to Taiwan but should be exciting (I've heard there's a Krispy Kreme shop opening up in December which is PERFECT as I am long overdue for one of their donuts).

Another exciting thing is that as I'm eighteen now and more independent, I don't mind travelling by myself in the city instead of following my mum around to the smelly markets where she finds pleasure in picking out fruits and vegetables. I can now properly explore the metropolitan nightlife!! First stop: American Apparel!

Here are some fashion inspiration I am trying to opt for when shopping for pieces in Hong Kong!

I love how she pulls of the whole 'one colour' outfit! I'm bringing two oxblood coloured pieces with me to Hong Kong and so hopefully I can pull it off just like her.

I absolutely love Ju Xiao Wen! I love how most of her outfit consists of black except the shirt and she balances it out with the white on her shoes.

I'm more of a person that likes the whole plain and simple kind of outfit like the one above and the ones below. I find that neutral colours like black, grey, white and denim blue suit me more than bright colours. Which could also explain why I love Winter fashion way more than Summer fashion.

New Years Resolutions for 2013!

I didn't make a NY Resolutions this year - how sad :(

So I decided to make some resolutions and (hopefully) complete them by the end of 2013.

  • Travel - It doesn't even matter where as long as it is outside Perth. However, I hope it is somewhere besides Australia because I want to see other countries and learn different languages and cultures.
  • Become a more consistent blogger - I have done a better job at blogging this year than last year and made more quality posts but there's always room for improvement. Hopefully I can blog more this year.
  • Improve YouTube channel - YouTube does not necessarily mean success but it means I can make more friends online and possibly learn the ways of a filmmaker (maybe) such as filming and editing videos like a pro. Hopefully I can get at least 1,000 subscribers by the end of this year.
  • Get a part-time job (no fast food) - Get a good paying part time job which can support your rich lifestyle of buying Lush products every week. No fast food jobs like McDonalds or Hungry Jacks because they don't count. Improve resumes as well.
  • Become more STYLISH - I have been so slack and haven't been buying any clothes at all. I have barely any clothes I can wear for winter except for my pyjamas. So I want to become more stylish and have my own style of clothing that defines who I am.
  • Perfect my skin and makeup (Be more pretty) - Take better care of my skin and learn how to apply makeup so instead of making me look like a drag queen, it'll actually make me look better. Learn how to do a PERFECT winged eyeliner.
  • Have penpals and send gifts to them! Have friends/penpals from across the globe and send letters and presents to them.
  • Become a better student and stop procrastinating - I should have studied more this year but oh well, I'm happy with my result even though I didn't even study that much this year. NO! I MUST motivate myself to become a better student and at least get B's. NO MORE C's - aim for at least B's and 70% +
  • Start cosplaying properly - Make more friends at conventions and hopefully find friends who are interested in cosplaying/anime/manga so that you won't be a loner at conventions as you don't have any friends who are interested in that anymore.
  • Get drivers license - I still haven't received my license yet.
  • Read more books and become more intellectual - I have actually read a lot of books this year  but I'm going to keep track with goodreads.com and manage to finish at least 20 books this year. As opposed to 10 (which I didn't complete).
  • Have more hobbies - So that I become a more interesting person and more all-rounder person. I have so much to say about sims 3, k-pop, dramas, anime, manga and what not but that's about it. I should have more interests and topics to discuss about so I can make more friends.

My 2013 wishlist:

My very kitty-esque wishlist for 2013

Sony Vaio Series E Laptop (in Pink), Naked 2 Pallette, Charlotte Olympia Kitty Flats, Daisy by Marc Jacobs, Kafka on the Shore by Haruki Murakami, Olympus Pen E-PL2 Camera, Kitten Stud Earrings, Black Kitty Dress, ASOS Cat Eye Sun Glasses, Blossom & Bird Ring.

Haha, well I honestly hope I can achieve all of these resolutions by the end of next year. Even if I don't, it will be good to have something to motivate you during the year and look back on it next year!

Hope everyone will have a happy new year!!

What are some of your resolutions for this year? Please share!
